Day 10 June 20, 2006
OMG the bus tour … motion sickness blahhhhhh … I don’t recommend a bus tour when its not flat and straight but today was not only interesting no lie holly shit sooooo fucken spectacular !! Wow I never had any idea that this island has sooo much history to it!!

We went to St Gerasimos Church and FYI you need to cover your shoulders and knees in respect to the nuns … anyway if you don’t have anything they hand you donated shit to put on yeah hahaha you so know I would have never put that shit on so I made sure I nothing was showing haha!! Anyway he was a local greek who became a monk and then came back to Kefallonia to build a church and also help people out who were mentally disabled. He lived under the chuch as a hermit and when he died things started to happen miracles and also other unexplained things around the town …. He died on Oct 20th and they exhumed his body because of the miracles and other shit 2 years to the date of his death … in the greek religion you are deemed a saint after 2 years and 30 days of your death. The first time they exhumed him his body had not at all rotted so they had to re buerry him again because it was not the total days to declare him a saint and then after that they deemed him a saint and once a day they open the casket and you can kiss his feet …. Ewwww hell no … ohhhhh yeah they also have to change his shoes every 6 months because they say he walks the island. People who have disabilities always go to this church to kiss his feet. They believe it will heal them or make them stronger. Also under the Church he lived in this cave. The cave is no bigger than a dorm room about 10 people fit in this cave. When you climb down this ladder and get to the bottom you will find this hold. The hole is no more than a foot in height and wide anyone any size will fit into the hole. They say if you have a lot of sins you will come out with soot on you but if you are free of sins and have all white on you will come out all perfectly clean. This truly documented story of that about 10 years also is this boy killed a couple and went to the church to relive himself of all sins and decided to see if the fathers blessing worked by entering the hold. He did so and came back un full of dirt so they knew it was him. Today I did it lol and it was pretty weird but also the same time interesting. I had a few dirt marks on my jeans but this one mark really bothered me. It was a mark that never touched any part of the hole or anything down in the cave. Anyway it was cool!! Ohhh yeah I also lit a candle for mom!!

We then hit this Local Winery and saw them make the wine … also got pick grapes, take our shoes off if we wanted to, and then taste a little of it .. its ok not a real wine drinker unless its mixed with something but it was pretty cool to see how they really make wine!!

Next stop was the Drogorati Caves … omg beautiful I must add. It’s a cave that is situated 120m above sea level, and is 95 feet deep, the temp is a steady 18 degrees Celsius . Its live Crystallized salt water that drips from the top of the cave to form these long crystals. As the water drips it runs down the top of the crystal and when it falls forms a bottom crystal. Its known that it takes 100 years to grow 1 cm …. Anyway its called DRAGORATI because in greek that means Dragon they believe that a dragon use to live in the cave because it was so cool and also the shape of it where it would lay down.

Next stop Melisanni Lake…. Omg this was sooooooooo amazing. It’s a lake that is 160m long and 40m wide, 39m deep, and has been here since 3rd or 4th century BC. This is the bluest water you will ever see!! The lake is totally underground , and the water flows only on one side of it!

Its called Melisanni Lake because its legend that this little girl who was running after her goats slipped and fell into the lake. When her parents went to go get her thinking she was dead low and behold she was alive. Ever since then they referred to it as Melisanni Lake!

We got to stop in Fiskardo (north of the island) old old old homes…. to eat lunch and then we drove by this popular beach called Murtal Beach the whitest sandiest beach in greece and the deepest and bluest shore line water you will find in the world

ATHENS ADVENTURE
TOOK THE FAIRY IN THE EARLY AM
THEN DROVE 3HRS INTO ATHENA ... THAT IS WHAT THEY CALL ATHENS!
Uncle Spiro, Santhie, and I walked around athens that afternoon and night and came across some interesting things.
PS PARKING IN ATHENS WAS PURE HELL.... When you are looking at the pics you will see a pic of me and in the background a car next to a wall ... yeah that is how you have to park. And the roads in athens never had lanes hahaha till the onlympics came. no comment on that!!

THE NEXT DAY I TOOK A TOUR
This tour offers to you “live” guided tour around Athens while you are seating in a luxury air-conditioned high deck “Hop in bus” and a guided tour at the Acropolis just outside the Parthenon.
Our professional guides will take you to the “Holy Rock” Acropolis to visit Propylea, Temple of Athena Nike, Erechteion and Parthenon, which was built 2.500 years ago.
Furthermore, you will have free time to visit the Acropolis Museum on your own or admire the magnificent view of Athens, “lying at your own feet.
Listed below are all the major sites of Athens that you will see with us:
The Panathenian Stadium - National Picture Gallery - The glass Runner - Megaron Concert Hall - National Archaeological Museum - National Theatre - Omonia Square - Open Market - Athens City Museum - National Historical Museum (Old Parliament) - Syntagma Square - Post Office - Plaka Area - Downtown shopping center - Flea market - St. Nikodimos Russian Orthodox - St. Paul’s Anglican - National Park (ex Royal Gardens) - House of Parliament (ex Royal Palace) - Tomb of the Unknown Soldier - (Evzones) - Iliou Melathron - Numismatic Museum (H. The tour was a good one but to spend 2 hrs and 30 mins at the acropolis hahaha yeah not worth it when it is something you can no lie see in 15 mins but I must say the most interesting part was the changing of the guards!!

Athens is a one time deal city … sort of like NEW YORK .. you either love it or hate it … I loved seeing what I got to see but I could and would never live there … now to visit it again ummmmm I really have to think about that!!
